FAQs
Questions we hear.
Clear answers about what The GirlHood Project teaches and how families and community partners can participate.
Are you teaching girls how to be prettier?
No. We are teaching girls how to take care of their bodies, build healthy habits, understand products, and make informed choices. Their worth is not tied to how they look.
What do girls learn through The GirlHood Project?
Girls learn age-appropriate hygiene routines, basic skincare, haircare for different textures, safe nail care, product and marketing literacy, healthy versus unhealthy beauty trends, and when to ask a trusted adult or healthcare professional for help.
Do girls need a lot of products?
No. We emphasize simple, practical routines and help girls understand that more products do not automatically mean better care.
How do you talk about social media and beauty trends?
Our Monthly GirlHood Trend Check helps girls pause before they follow a trend and ask: What is it? Why are girls trying it? Is it age-appropriate? What could go wrong? What does the evidence say? Is there a safer alternative? Do you actually need it?
Who can request a GirlHood Box?
GirlHood Boxes are free. Individuals can request support, and schools, dance programs, youth organizations, teams, and community partners can submit group requests for multiple girls. Group requests must be approved before delivery or shipping.
What if a girl has a health or skin problem?
We provide education—not diagnosis or medical treatment. When a concern may require medical attention, girls are encouraged to involve a trusted adult and a qualified healthcare professional.
